The design of the Zhiliantai Industrial Park is inspired by the traditional Chinese windmill, a symbol of flow and balance. The tower's shape, much like the windmill, extends in four directions, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, ocean, city, and park. The project's location, in the center of Shenzhen's urban basin, provides an abundance of natural resources that further enhance the design's unique properties.
The tower's unique windmill-like structure is not just aesthetically pleasing but also serves a practical purpose. The design vertically arranges dormitories, offices, and retail spaces from top to bottom, with the gradient windmill-shaped plan solving the conflict and fusion of these three functions. This ingenious layout ensures that all functions can equally benefit from the plan.
One of the major challenges faced during the design process was optimizing the building's volume to ensure that it did not block sunlight to the surrounding buildings. The windmill-like tower plan allows each unit more faces to enjoy sunlight, ensuring optimal lighting for both residential and office spaces. The design also takes into account the sunlight requirements of the surrounding buildings, with the tower's congenital corner-absence not only ensuring the comfort of the surrounding buildings but also creating a sleek and handsome overall image of the tower.
The Zhiliantai Industrial Park project began in 2021 and is estimated to complete construction in 2025. It has already garnered recognition for its innovative design, winning the Platinum A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, contribute to societal wellbeing, and advance the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
The Zhiliantai Industrial Park is a testament to Aedas' commitment to creating designs that are not only visually stunning but also deeply rooted in philosophy and practicality. The project is a shining example of how modern architecture can draw inspiration from ancient wisdom to create structures that are in harmony with their surroundings and serve the needs of their inhabitants.
